All The Books I Read

It's been awhile since I have blogged about my books. Knowing me, you should know that there is a lot that I need to catch you guys up on. I had 2 whole weeks to read books over break (and a 50 dollar gift card to Barns and Noble). Over the time gone I read Cress by Marissa Meyer, The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter, Landline by Rainbow Rowell and I recently finished Panic by Lauren Oliver.

Okay so let's start off with Cress by Marissa Meyer. Book 3 of the Lunar Chronicles, I had been waiting forever to read this book. Originally, I had planned to read it for Bestsellers, but someone had already bought it for me for Christmas and that plan was delayed another month until December 25th when I could unwrap it. All of the books in the Lunar Chronicles are fairy-tell spin offs set in the future, where a society on the moon called Lunar threatens the 136 years of peace on Earth. Queen Leneva, the Lunar ruler does everything in her power to marry Emperor Kai and rule the Eastern Commonwealth which used to be China. Cress is a spin off of Rapunzel. I loved this book, like the other two books in the Lunar Chronicles I flew through it. Cress is adorable and likeable and the dynamic written with her and Carswell Thorne brilliant. In this book Marissa Meyer starts to unravel the arrogance of Throne into a sweeter more caring man in how he interacts with Cress. Anyone who likes fantasy, science fiction or a great book should read it.

The next book I am going to talk about is The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. Now this book is really hard to explain so I'm gonna use the description from goodreads: It's always been just Kate and her mom - and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear that her mother won't live past the fall. Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld - and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.Kate is sure he's crazy - until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride and a goddess.
If she fails... Suspenseful synopsis I know. This book is going down in history as one of my favorites of all time. I highly, highly recommend this book.

So moving on to Landline by Rainbow Rowell. I did not like this book at all. I adore Rainbow Rowell and I loved Fangirl and Eleanor&Park but Landline fell short of my expectations. Its about a women named Georgie who's marriage is falling apart, when he goes to Nebraska without her she thinks she's finally put an end to it. She finds a magical land-line in her old room that allows her to talk to her Neal, in the past. She tries to fix her marriage before it ever started. Reading the summary of the book I was instantly intrigued but the ending to this book was not satisfying. I hated most of the minor characters and I found Neal a bit obnoxious. The biggest flaw I found in the book was that only one character was dynamic and that drove me nuts. I personally was not a big fan of the book.

Finally I am going to discuss Panic by Lauren Oliver. I am still not quite sure what I think of this book. I just finished it and I just don't even know how to describe how I feel. Again this one is hard to explain so I am going to use the goodreads synopsis: Heather never thought she would compete in Panic, a legendary game played by graduating seniors, where the stakes are high and the payoff is even higher. She’d never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought.Dodge has never been afraid of Panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he’s sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he’s not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for.For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them—and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most. Okay sorry for that huge synopsis. Anyway as I was saying I'm still trying to iron out my feelings for Panic. I loved the main character Heather, she was so caring for her sister as illustrated on page 214, "She spread the comforter over Lily, careful not to wake her." But I'm weary of the book because I hated the minor characters. Nat and Bishop were both selfish and self-centered and I just couldn't get over that to enjoy the book.

If you decide to read any of the books, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
